In a bathroom, as in any other space, everything adds up. Some elements more than others, and, in this case, the tiles chosen for a small bathroom, have greater power than other elements.
We must bear in mind that they are the base where the aesthetics of the bathroom will be built. And if the base is wrong … Well, we know what happens.
Therefore, if you want to expand your small bathroom or make it look bigger, that is, optimize space, you need to choose the perfect tiles for small bathrooms, build a good base, on which you will continue to expand your bathroom, as with mirrors, suspended furniture or other elements that make a bathroom look more spacious.
So, let’s see what are the best tiles for a small bathroom.
The color of the tiles

Let’s start with color, always so important on any surface; and, when it comes to expanding a space, in this case a bathroom, even more.
As you can imagine the light tones, both on floor and walls are the colors that work best in a small bathroom, as we can see in this bathroom with white tiles.
Light colors reflect more light, which makes the bathroom brighter and also visually larger.
This does not mean that you cannot cover a small bathroom with dark tiles, but here we are talking about the tiles that make a bathroom appear larger and brighter, that is, the tiles with which we will optimize the bathroom space, and with the dark ones we will not optimize it.
But don’t get overwhelmed, you don’t have to choose white tiles, if you don’t like them. There is an immense variety of tiles in soft tones, such as earth, a wide range, gray and broken white with which to make the bathroom visually larger and brighter without giving up a colorful aesthetic if this is what you are looking for.
The size of the tiles
Equal or more important than color is size. In this case we play with the extremes: O large or small.
Large format tiles expand and give continuity to the space and if they are in light tones much better.
In the bathroom above these lines with the simple and elegant countertop basin we can see the tile in earth tones and in a large format that covers the floor, making it visually wider.

Or small tiles that, due to the number of them that must be used to cover a wall, deceive the eye making the surface appear larger due to the large amount there is, as we can see in this white bathroom with meter type tiles in brightness and with the beautiful vintage washbasin.
Although it is also true that these tiles recharge more than the larger formats.
With regard to the more traditional tiles of medium sizes, they contribute nothing beyond their function as a coating and decorative. To create effects do not serve us. They can be used equally, of course, but we will not achieve the same effect.
Even the tile type tile is more suitable and convenient than a standard medium sized tile.
The tile at least creates the illusion that the spaces are larger than they are, and being a mosaic its decorative possibilities only slows our imagination, as we can see in the bathroom just down here.

Basically these two factors, color and size are the most decisive when choosing tiles for a small bathroom that wants to optimize its space. Its placement in the wall, texture or joint, do not influence so much, although, of course, they do matter.
If we want to further optimize the choice of the tile, those of rectified format to conceal or make the board invisible, large and in light tones, would be ideal; since its continuous surface offers us an incomparable visual continuity with respect to other formats of tiles, as we can see in this bathroom of the Roca firm.
Maybe after reading this article, you may think that you cannot add an outstanding aesthetic in the bathroom.
But far from it is like that.
As I said before, any tile can be used to create the combination we want, but if what we are looking for is to optimize the space, these characteristics are the ones we should look for in a tile to cover our bathroom.
